Prof. Polina Golland (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), lecture 1

Prof. Polina Golland (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US) was one of the speakers of Medical Imaging Summer School (Sicily, July 28-August 1, 2014), here you can find her lecture 1: "Segmentation in medical image analysis".

Abstract. We discuss key approaches to medical image segmentation that have withstood the test of time and have been used across many applications and imaging modalities.

We examine how prior information can be injected into the segmentation process in a form of atlases, shape models or spatial priors. We also review how local intensity information is incorporated into the segmentation process and integrated with the prior knowledge to produce patient-specific segmentation results.
